Dave Hancock was Premier of Alberta prior to his resignation September 15, 2014 having served Albertans for seventeen years trusted with many of the province’s most important portfolios as Cabinet Minister. Dave went into public life to build an Alberta that balances economic strength and social responsibility and knows that getting social policy right is one of the most fiscally responsible actions a government can take. A thinker and hard-worker, Dave’s approach to government has lead three different premiers to trust him with ministerial roles at the cabinet table and as Government House Leader, prior to being selected by his colleagues to serve as Alberta’s 15th Premier.
Dave grew up in the small Northern Alberta towns (Hazelton BC, Fort Vermilion AB) and graduated high school in La Crete before moving to Edmonton to complete his political science and law degrees at the University of Alberta. After practicing law and becoming a partner with Edmonton’s Matheson and Company, Dave ran for public office and was elected as the Progressive Conservative Member of the Legislative Assembly for Edmonton-Whitemud. Dave and his wife, Janet, raised their three children in Edmonton. Dave and Janet are enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers in their community over the years having supported community organizations such as Kiwanis, Success by Six, Meals on Wheels, and Family Literacy.
